All good things must end

After a fantastic break (almost 9 months) from working it's time to go back. This week I signed on to lead "Information Systems" for Tesla Motors. My vacation ends in a week and a half - I start on Feb. 5.

Of course I don't know exactly what Information System means to Tesla, but it appears to be a role that will be very interesting to me. I will be responsible for selecting and/or designing all of the electronic devices in the car, and all the firmware that controls them. These "information systems" are quite diverse ranging from things like the entertainment system (radio, CD, DVD, etc) to the tire pressure sensors and many things in between. These systems make up much of the driver's experience of the car, something I'm pretty passionate about.

I'm hoping this job will meet many of the criteria I selected when thinking about what to do next. Tesla builds electric cars - in my opinion a critical part of weening us from fossil fuels. It gives me a chance to work with a relatively small team that's moving fast on stuff that I find both important and interesting. It's not too far from home, and I believe will allow me to continue to spend enough time with my family.

Here's hoping it's 1/2 as good as I've envisioned. :)

Congratulations Craig. I'm looking forward to swinging by your work to get a test drive! :-)
