Day 1 - Disney World
We got up early (which was tough with the time change), got some breakfast (I had some grits) and headed off to Disney World’s Animal Kingdom park for the morning. We went on the safari which was excellent and then on the Everest roller coaster. We also went on a water ride before having an early lunch. After lunch we saw the Lion King theatrical show which was impressive.
We then jumped on the shuttle bus and headed up to the Magic Kingdom, which is strikingly like Disneyland. We rode all our favorites – Big Thunder Railroad (x2), Space Mountain (x2), Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, It’s a Small World, etc. We got caught in a downpour while riding Big Thunder Railroad and got totally soaked. We stayed until 10:00, caught the fireworks over the castle and then headed out quickly.
We got on the ferry to go across the lake to the bus parking. While we were waiting on the ferry, a huge storm erupted. The thunder and lightning were great in the dark, but when we got off the boat it was pouring like we never see in California. We had to go about ½ a mile, but even if it had been 50 yards we would have been totally soaked. We looked like we’d jumped in a pool with our clothes on by the time we got on the bus. It was a good memory at the end of a long day.
