Day 10 - Nashville
We had
a lazy breakfast and then we drove the 30 minutes back into Nashville and
parked downtown. We first went to the
Ryman auditorium where the Grand Ole Opry was broadcast for about 40
years. It was more interesting than I expected. It started life as a church and then became
the auditorium. In the 70’s it was
basically abandoned, but has since been restored and is now used for concerts
again. Emmylou Harris was the first one
to play there in the 90’s and remind folks what a great auditorium it was.
Next we
walked down to and along the walk of fame where we checked out the stars. It was hot outside as usual. J Then we continued on (across the street) to
the Country Music Hall of Fame which is basically a huge museum of country
music. Everyone enjoyed learning a
bunch, but we eventually got hungry and left.
We finally
went to a Southern BBQ joint – Jack’s BBQ on Broadway. It had a line out the door and the tables
were packed, but we decided to wait anyway.
There wasn’t much for Kelli to eat, and Jessie didn’t really like her
rack of ribs (oddly), but the rest of us enjoyed our BBQ and sampling the
various sauces. They serve you on paper
plates with plastic utensils and have huge rolls of paper towels on the table
instead of napkins.
Next we
drove to the Parthenon which was interesting, but sort of strange. It is an exact replica of the Parthenon in
Greece. When the touring was done we
played Sneaky Statues around the back of the Parthenon.
We
decided to drive west out of town to take some miles off of our drive to
Memphis the next day and stayed in a KOA. We did some laundry, the girls played
in the pool and I took some business calls while playing lifeguard.
