Arezzo
Today started with a surprise when I awoke at 10 AM. That’s the latest I’ve slept in I don’t know
how long. Our whole family slept till
then. We were exhausted and it was great
to get a good night’s sleep. The Kleins
and the Cowards were already up and wandering the town, but we had breakfast in
our place of eggs, toast, cantelope, coffee and juice which we had bought last
night around 11 PM in a tiny shop where there were folks watching the world
cup. It was nice to sit at a table and
eat a home-cooked meal with the girls.
Today was the most relaxing day we’ve had. We walked around the town of Arezzo, which is
small and cute and built on a steep hillside.
They were having their annual antiques fair which is laid out in every
street in the town. It is the biggest
antique display in Italy. We wondered
around in small groups and then eventually made it back and read in our little
apartment while we did laundry for the last week of the trip.
We went out to get dinner for the 9 of us, which turned out to
be more difficult than we expected at 8:00.
It turns out the entire town is out and about at 8:00 on Saturday
night. The place was packed and tables
were tough to find. We finally found a
place and had a nice meal. Then we hiked
back up to our place and went to bed.
