A Day in Bath
This morning we woke up at 10:00! None of us could believe we had slept so
late. We’re in a cozy, dark basement and
it was quiet and we hadn’t set an alarm for the first time on the trip.
We quickly showered and got dressed and walked
into town for a late breakfast. We
couldn’t find a place that served an American style breakfast. We eventually ended up at the Bath Kitchen
Restaurant. Other than triangular “hash
browns” that tasted like fish and chips, it was ok. Then we walked across the street to the Roman
Baths and did a 2 hour walk around tour. All of us found it interesting for
various reasons. I was especially
interested in how they were built and then rebuilt over the years and then
eventually restored back to their original form (at least a small part of
them). The whole Roman bath area has
been nicely re-arranged in a combination of old and new.
After the tour I walked back to our apartment
while the girls checked out the fashion museum.
Then I walked back to town for afternoon tea at the Pump Room which was
the old pump room above the baths. It
was built in the 1700s and is now a proper tea room complete with small,
chamber music trio. It was my first tea
(but not at all the first for the four girls).
After tea I again walked back to the apartment
and the girls did some shopping before they, too, came back. We sat around for about an hour and then
walked back to town for dinner. We ate
at a traditional English pub – the Huntsman.
We sat upstairs where it was nice and quiet and had a nice, late meal.
We walked back home around 10:30 and read before
going to bed.
