Our day in New York
Today we slept in, then we had breakfast with
Patty’s friend Chris who was also in New York.
We then took the subway downtown to see ground zero and the 9-11
memorials, museum and the brand new One World Observatory. It was a great experience although the views
from the 100the floor of the observatory were minimal because of weather.
We then headed back up town (I stopped short of
our hotel to pick up Jessie’s suitcase from her hotel) to get to our
hotel. We had dinner at a New York diner
and then went to Carnegie Hall to watch Jessie and Cantabile perform.
The concert was great. It was opened by Cantabile. They were fantastic as always and did a bunch
of fun music with lots of movement.
After the intermission there was a youth orchestra
that was good, but played boring music that put everyone (except their parents)
to sleep. Cantabile, by contrast, got a
standing ovation.
The concert ended with an adult chamber group
and adult choir singing a number of pieces from the Messiah. I really enjoyed
it.
After the concert we left Jessie because she had
wanted to go to the Cantabile party that was being held at a restaurant in
Times Square. We went to a restaurant
had desert. Then I went to the party to
pick her up only to learn that she had checked a backpack along with her
suitcase at her hotel. It was not about
12:30 at night (and we were leaving at 4:30 AM for the airport). I walked to her hotel, got her backpack,
walked back to her restaurant, got her and we walked back to our hotel. We got a few hours of sleep before getting up
for our taxi ride to the airport.
